Quilt Versus Comforter

If like most, you are confused about the differences between a quilt and a comforter, you are not alone. Quilt or comforter are most commonly used in Singapore. To be able to know the differences between quilt versus comforter, we have to define it before knowing the pros and cons of each in order to make an informed purchase.

What Defines A Quilt?

How do you define what is a quilt? A quilt comes in three layers. They include a top layer, batting and a bottom layer. What makes a quilt special and stand out from the rest is the patchwork creations on the top layer. You probably might have seen these in a Western genre film.

The top layer of a quilt is made of different pieces of fabric sewn together in a grid or a complex design. The inner batting of the quilt is the filling and it can be made of materials like wool, down or polyester. The bottom layer is a single piece of fabric that does not look like the top layer of the quilt.

Why Buy A Quilt?

A quilt is suitable for you if you are a hot sleeper. The other reason would be because you really like having a layered look on your bed. Next would be that you enjoy piling layers of quilt and bedspread on their bed for added texture and warmth. If you like your bed to look flat then quilt would be your go-to bed cover as quilts are not fluffy like a comforter.

What Defines A Comforter?

A comforter is made of two pieces of identical material sewn together in a grid format. A comforter can be sewn-through where the stitching goes all the way through both sides of the comforter. There is also the baffle box construction where extra pieces of fabric between the top and bottom layers of the comforter creates a three-dimensional shape in which the comforter’s fill can expand more.

Hotelier Prestigio™ Deluxe Microfiber Comforter

Filled inside each square of box will be fluffy material such as down or down alternative. Down comes from ducks or geese. While down alternatives like Affairs Living’s Hotelier Prestigio™ Deluxe Microfiber Comforter is comfortable and suitable for allergy sufferers because microfiber is hypoallergenic.

Sometimes, comforters are referred to as duvet. A duvet can also refer to the cover that you put over a comforter.

Why Buy A Comforter?

A comforter has the loft that a quilt does not have. If you enjoy having a fluffy looking bed, then the comforter is for you. Also, if you are afraid of the cold and like to slip under a warm bed cover without feeling sweaty, the comforter is also a great option for you.
